What Others are Saying About Alvin

Our web designers suggested that the first testimonial should be from Alvin's wife. The question posed was "who can attest to Alvin's qualities more than his wife and life partner of 24 years and counting". It made sense. So even though this is a bit outside of my comfort zone, I want to be the first testimonial on my husband's campaign for judge. Alvin is a dedicated man. Dedicated to his family, his children, his health, his community, his friends, himself and his career. My husband is a very smart man and could have chosen any career, even much more lucrative careers. He did not.

His passion is the law and defending those who need defense. In 24 years of marriage with an additional 3 years of dating, three children, careers, moves, neighborhoods - you name it, Alvin has not and will not comprise his morals. He is fair, sometimes blunt, but fair and I hope you have a chance to meet Alvin at one of our events leading up to his successful election as judge.

When my daughter decided that she was interested in law school, I asked my co-worker's (Dr. Nunnery) husband to mentor her through the process. Alvin mentored my daughter and helped her affirm that this career choice is certainly her life's calling.

In fact, Alvin was in a jury trial and encouraged and embraced my daughters participation and feedback. Alvin had a profound impact on my daughter's career decisions and was a vital part of her senior year at Rice University. It is this type of commitment that would make Alvin a great judge.

I am honored that Alvin asked me to write a testimonial for his campaign for judge. I have known Alvin for 15 years starting as his tennis coach and that naturally progressed into a lifelong friendship.

Alvin and Angela are model citizens and the proof is in their children, whom I also had the pleasure of coaching in tennis. As far as a testimonial goes, if I was in a courtroom, nothing would make me feel more comfortable then seeing a man with Alvin's moral compass on the bench.

Coach Jeff

A family member of mine was charged with a very serious offense in 2004. To our luck, Alvin was appointed by the court to represent our family as we did not have the funds to seek private council. Alvin treated us as if we were spending $500 per hour with him. The case was successfully concluded and favorable to us, but that was not a cake walk.

Alvin worked countless hours, nights & weekends and spent hours away from his family helping my family. I asked Alvin one evening why and his simple response was that his job and oath is to seek fairness. Alvin continues to stay in touch with us five years after the case was concluded because he still demonstrates compassion for my family member.

I was a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney's office for 8 years and decided to go into private practice. Although I tried countless cases as a prosecutor, I knew that I needed a mentor to help me transition to the defense side. The first person my co-worker and I thought of was Alvin. Alvin took me under his wing.

Together, we defended a woman who had been severely abused and I knew that the private sector was for me. The testimonial for Alvin's candidacy for judge is simply this - out of the hundreds of attorney's that we dealt with as county employees, Alvin's name was #1 on my list of who to contact.
